Move over, athletes—there’s a new star in the NIL world.
Syracuse University’s beloved mascot, Otto the Orange, has officially signed an NIL deal with The NIL Store, becoming the first mascot in history to join the Name, Image, and Likeness era.
And in true Otto fashion, the signing wasn’t just historic—it was hilarious, heartfelt, and extremely orange.
The First Mascot to Go NIL
The NIL Store has worked with more than 120 schools and 30,000+ athletes nationwide, but this deal marks a first. Otto the Orange, a symbol of Syracuse spirit and joy for decades, is now officially part of the NIL Store family.
To mark the occasion, Otto launched an exclusive three-piece merchandise line at the Syracuse NIL Store:
-
Otto Orange Mascot Jersey (#44 Edition) — a nod to Syracuse’s most legendary number.
-
Otto Orange Streetwear Collection — stylish, everyday pieces for fans to show their orange pride.
-
Otto Orange Retro Collection — playful, animated design inspired by Otto’s one-of-a-kind personality.
Each purchase from Otto’s Locker Room directly supports the Otto Orange Mascot Program, ensuring that future Ottos can continue carrying on the proud traditions of Syracuse University.
The Signing Event: Press, Players, and Pure Energy
To celebrate the deal, Otto hosted a “press conference” worthy of an ESPN highlight reel. He “signed” his NIL contract in front of local Syracuse media, posed with fans, and was presented with his official #44 jersey by Syracuse football player, Jack Stonehouse.
And of course, Otto couldn’t resist entertaining the crowd.

Excerpt from Otto’s Official Press Conference:
(this is completely imaginary and made up, obviously)
Reporter 1: Otto, what made you decide to sign with The NIL Store?
Otto: Thumbs up and an exaggerated nod while spinning in place.
Reporter 2: How does it feel to be the first mascot to sign an NIL deal?
Otto: Throws confetti, then points to himself proudly before flexing.
Reporter 3: Which item from your merch line is your favorite?
Otto: Points to his #44 jersey, beats his chest twice, then dabs.
Reporter 4: What message do you have for future Ottos?
Otto: Forms a heart with his hands, wipes away a fake tear, and salutes.
(Press conference concluded with Otto moonwalking off stage while waving a foam finger.)
What The NIL Store Had to Say
“We’ve worked with thousands of college athletes, but this one’s special,” said a spokesperson for The NIL Store. “Otto’s an icon. He embodies school spirit, tradition, and fun—which is everything NIL stands for.”
